WHAT IS THE GOSPEL
After rising from the grave, after being crucified, Jesus Christ spoke these words to His disciples just before returning to Heaven: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned." These pointed words were spoken by JESUS, the man universally known as the very definition of love. What urged a loving Savior to speak such heavy words to those he came to save? What is this gospel that the entire world should hear about and that, if not believed, would lead to eternal judgment?

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth and lived a sinless life. Though sinless, he was crucified on a cross, taking the full brunt of mankind's sin and judgment, paying the debt of sin. He suffered and died in mankind's place. He was then buried. Three days later, he rose from the grave (fulfilling His own promise) defeating death and Hell for us.
We are all lost in sin, facing certain, eternal judgment. But God, who is limitless in mercy, loved mankind so much that he sent Christ to die in our place. Through Jesus' death, we can have eternal life. However, Jesus makes it clear in His final words: We must place our faith in the gospel to be saved. We must admit that we are sinners and believe in the fact that Jesus alone can save and forgive. There is no amount of good deeds that can earn us salvation. Our hope lies only in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. No catch. Just unearned, freely-offered grace. This is the gospel!
Think about it. Jesus loved you enough to give a command 2,000+ years ago to tell the entire world of the good news, it's not a random coincidence. This is what Jesus wanted you to hear today. You can have eternal life and forgiveness of sin. Call out to Jesus by simple faith. Confess your sin to him alone, and ask Him to save you and give you eternal life through his gospel!
